"Ain't
Nothing so Bad it Can't Get Worse."
For most of my life those words haunted me. They mocked me at every
failed venture. Every lost opportunity. They were my Sword of Damocles
waiting to punish me for trying to lift myself up and make a better
life for my family.
These words choked in my throat when I stood in federal bankruptcy
court for the second time declaring for all the world to hear that
I had indeed failed miserably as a son, father and citizen.
My father's words followed me like a dark cloud of ill-will most
of my adult life.
I can only wonder why it took so very long for me to finally grasp
the real meaning of his words. Words that should have encouraged
and fueled my quest for wealth went misunderstood until now.
My dad grew up during the Great Depression of the thirties. He told
me once he shoveled sand for 10-cents a hour, twelve hours a day
just to have work. He was sent to Italy in World War II and spent
every day wondering if he would ever see his wife again. Wondering
if he'd get the chance to have a family. Wondering if he'd come
back in one piece. Or at all.
So, naturally I discounted his words. He was obviously focusing
on the negative side of life.
See, I didn't understand. Maybe I had it too easy. Yes, I failed
in business. I was evicted from more than one house. I've had several
cars repossessed. I've felt the cold fear of not knowing if I could
feed and house my family one more day, but maybe that wasn't enough.
I don't know.
Today, I understand what he meant. He was telling me that life is
full of tests and difficulties. That we are here in this life to
grow and learn and that's not always easy.
He was saying be strong, you can do it. You can overcome any trouble
that blows your way, if you face it. Trouble was meant for you to
overcome.
Trouble is a wonderful gift. A gift that keeps coming until you
do face it.
You are here to overcome.
You are here to win.
You are here to become rich beyond your wildest dreams.
Dad meant you can't give up. You can't quit.
So, when trouble comes. And you feel that sword above your head.
And you know that failure is near at hand, maybe my dad's words
will give you comfort.
Be strong. Perservere. The Universe loves you.
Because as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow.
" Ain't nothing so bad it can't get worse."
Good Luck And Great Adventures.
